‘Yugen' is a Japanese word  describing  the mysterious quality surrounding everything, to which our intuition responds.

​Nature of spirit is an underlying theme in much of my art making. Initially this inquiry was part of my inner process, Now I  feel that any difference between spirit and form is just a relative one, So I look to make them synonymous in my painting.

​In this way I can empathise with the lifework of Mark Rothko. I feel his enquiry into myth, then Logos and finally a pure abstraction, exemplifying his inner journey as well as just the reductive process to abstraction.’
