ADVENTURES IN WASHI, SUMI AND MORE

Washi takes on an almost mystical dimension in Japan. Coupled with Sumi, it sits at the heart of their painting .

It follows that there is much tradition behind this simple medium,But looking closely at some of the screens and calligraphy, I can see that the finer examples are all so experimental and pushing that tradition. Beside the brushwork, the relationship between ink and paper has a so many qualities to discover.So using different papers, collage and tools, and probably breaking some rules , I can enjoy many possibilities including 3-D ones......
